HDPE lining membranes are well known within the industry for their excellent physical properties. These properties enable HDPE liners to be highly resistant to chemicals and hydrocarbons alike, making them ideal for chemical storage lagoons or bunds storing any form of contaminant that would normally destroy unprotected surfaces.
The fertiliser lagoons at the Hydro Chafer plant in Elvington, near York, were lined using a 2.0mm HDPE base liner, a leak detection net layer, and another 2.0mm HDPE on top. HDPE membranes have been installed in several similar lagoons to those at Elvington, along with projects on garage forecourts, and indeed any area of land where there is a risk from chemical or hydrocarbon contamination.
